Long Time Gone
Derek Twyman is a Canadian citizen who was sentenced to 160 years in prison in North Carolina for a series of non-violent home robberies he committed in his teens. From the time Twyman started his life behind bars, he was tireless in his efforts to raise awareness about his case, writing letters to friends and strangers alike. Through his efforts, an unlikely team of lawyers took on the U.S. legal system to get him released early. Lisa documented his return and his adjustment to life back in Canada.
